For many people, they may think without further ado that quilting is indeed a girl thing. Anyway, have you seen your dad, brother or boyfriend sewing or making some embroidery on your towel or hankies? Although some gentlemen are exceptionally talented with doing that, indeed, generally speaking, it is are grandmas, moms, sisters, or even us girls, who are making a heirloom of quilters in our family.
But talking aside of the gender, we all have are free will to decide what to do, and even what hobby to pursue. I may say that I do have a respect for all quilters, or with anyone who do quilting and any related job, since every output of them is indeed a work of art, produced with their own uniqueness, devotion and creativity. So if you want to be one of them, here are some guidelines which can be of a great help.
Decide carefully what to quilt. Know what you want. It is not different in buying your car, your dress, or even your food. You obviously wouldn't get it if you do not like it anyway. Just like in quilting, think of a project that will make you love quilting more. If you like what you do, then you definitely will enjoy quilting.
Assess your quilting ability. Now that you have the drive, do not decide right away and purchase your quilting kit, just knowing in the end that it's too difficult for you or you do not have enough time to do it. There are so many quilting designs available in the market, and it's good to know which one matches with your expertise.
Invest for the right materials. Buying for cheaper products is not the issue here, just as long as you are assured that they are of high quality, since it may affect your quilts in the long run. For example, does your fabric shrinks after being washed? Or is the thread you used colorfast and will not stain your whole quilt? These are just a few of the things you have to note before deciding to buy your quilting material.
Do the right color combination. A lot of quilters make mistake on this one. Some can be too excited to do the job right away not knowing that they are combining the wrong colors and use the threads having the incorrect colors. Of course we are all entitled and have all the freedom to do whatever we like with our quilts, but just a simple reminder, choosing the right colors will bring more beauty to your quilts, and choosing the transparent threads is always the best choice.
Finish your quilts with pride. Starting your quilt and be able to finish it the way you are expecting to gives you satisfaction and pride. If you have followed the tips provided above, for sure you'll be able to reach this final stage.
Surely, those are just some of the whole bunch of tips and guidelines for you to remember in doing your quilts. And just as long as you take them in your mind, and in your heart, you'll be certain that quilting will be a lot fun and easier for you.
